Welcome The Waussies - Books Review

Jacqui Taub with her "Waussies" books (Pic: Deborah Kaye Photography)

I was recently sent a set of books featuring the adventures of the Waussies (Wacky Aussies, but their tongues kept getting twisted, so they shortened it!) I read

Tennis Racquet Waussie's Space Adventure
Boomerang Waussie To The Rescue
Beachball Waussie's Lost Air Stopper
Hiccup Waussie Loses his Hiccups
Pineapple Waussie's Tickly Problem
Burger Waussie's Lost Bun

Written an illustrated by Australian Jacqui Taub (pictured above), and dedicated to her 13 grandchildren, the books are aimed at 3-7 year olds (though I think their themes and quality will make them useful right up to the end of Key Stage 2), the books are colourful, engaging and encourage good manners, kindness, patience, motivation, perseverance and and teamwork.

Each book comes with an audio CD including a dramatic reading of the story and the Waussie song.

They're perfect for reading out loud and starting discussions and are available from Amazon.

With The Guardian today reporting on a study of 300 teachers by Oxford University Press, showing that many children start school never having been read a story, there's no better time to get to know the fantastic Waussies.
