Thank goodness Primark have decided to withdraw a line of padded bikini tops for young girls (see here), shame they thought they were appropriate for girls in the first place. When I help to run discos at the DS' primary school, I'm horrified at some of the sights, girls of 11 and under wearing tiny skirts, revealing tops and strappy shoes.
I only ever remember wearing trousers, shirts, skirts and sensible shoes. I had party clothes of course, but nothing strappy or revealing.
Clothes issues are one of the things that make me grateful for having a son. He's interested in looking smart, but he's not a wacky dresser. He's growing his hair at the moment, but he's quite clear that he doesn't want his ears pierced.
I've nothing against pretty girly clothes, or a little make up for children, but rushing the process of becoming an adult is simply wrong.
Childhood should be celebrated and enjoyed for as long as possible, the world has enough horrors once you reach adulthood without having them thrust on you as a tiddler.
