My own DS is an avowed bookworm, sometimes his teachers have to take books off him during lesson times, but he has absolutely no interest in football. Now if actors, or scientists, or inventors, or even writers were choosing books for boys, he'd be paying attention.
So, come on powers that be, don't just assume that premiership footballers are going to engage every boy in the country, cast your net wider!

It's so important to draw attention to reading, and attract reluctant readers to it, especially boys. In fact, I've recently completed a feature magazine article on this subject that came out in October, "Help for Struggling, Reluctant Readers."
I grew up as a reluctant reader, in spite of the fact that my father published over 70 books. Now I write action-adventures & mysteries, especially for tween boys, that avid boy readers and girls enjoy just as much.
My blog, Books for Boys http://booksandboys.blogspot.com is dedicated to drawing attention to the importance of reading. And my new book, Lost Island Smugglers - first in the Sam Cooper Adventure Series - is coming out in July-August. Contracts are also signed for Captain Jack's Treasure and River Rampage.
Keep up your good work.

PS. My first 7 books are going to be republished by Comfort Publishing later in 2010
I completely agree about encouraging reluctant readers (especially boys), I'm so glad my son is so into reading.
When I was teaching and now as a Cub Leader, I always encourage the kids to use books and not just rely on the internet and television for their information and adventures.
Your books sound really interesting, so you can bet Jonno and I will check them out. I'll take a look at your blog to.
Take care
Sarah
